This week was uneventful, which was nice. I had no trips to Urgent Care or to L&D so my husband is happy. And, well, so am I.
However, since I am banned from yardwork I guess I am going to sit around most of the weekend and do nothing. Which in itself is really not a bad idea. I find that I am running out of energy (and desire) to do much lately. I have commandeered my husband's laptop because the chair in the office is uncomfortable.
The only exciting things I have planned for this weekend are to wrap up the details for my sister and her partners baby shower that I am throwing next weekend and maybe I will go and buy a new car today.
I guess both of those things are pretty fun, at least definitely more fun than yardwork and trips to L&D.
I have really enjoyed planning this baby shower. With the price of gas I found it to be much more cost effective to locate everything online and have it shipped. I found super cute rubber ducky baby shower decorations that topped what the local party store had and was about the same price.
I made a diaper cake for decoration. I will post a picture of it once I have the final touches on it. Note to others- Luvs diapers are one of the cheapest brands but the diapers have blue imprints on them so of course it doesn't exactly resemble a true white cake. Still, it is cute and since I was only experimenting I don't feel bad about using eight bucks worth of diapers.
I am fairly well prepared for the shower, just need to finalize the menu and order the cake. And order the balloons. And coordinate someone to help me bring all of the stuff over and get it set up. And wrap the giant box containing the travel system we bought for them. But really, not bad. I say I need to all these things this weekend but likely I will be doing them on Thursday night since the shower is Saturday.
Oh yeah, and I think I'm going to buy a new car today. It sounds so casual, as if I just woke up this morning and decided I would do it. It wasn't that easy. We have debated for the last several months- actually, since we rented one of these over Memorial Day weekend on our trip to Dallas. I loved it right off the bat but my husband (oh so practical) doesn't want me to get rid of my Audi since it is paid for. However, he doesn't really get that once the new baby comes we aren't going to be able to put the rear facing car seat in the back of my Audi the way we did when it was just Hayley. See, there isn't latch in the middle seat. And I don't think the Mazda has it in the middle seat either. The difference is that if we put the rear facing carseat in the Audi then the passenger seat has to sit straight up and your knees will be practically touching the dashboard.
At least (or so I think) with the Mazda there is more rear seat room so the passenger in the Mazda can still ride comfortably. In addition, I have always LOVED the trunk space in my Audi but when I had the travel system stroller in the trunk I couldn't exactly fit much else. I'm digging the trunk space in the Mazda.
So when I say we have debated getting rid of my Audi for a Mazda really what I mean is that I have been constantly wearing my husband down until he finally gave in. My car has been paid off for several years so I do agree with my husband, I don't really want to start over with a car payment, but I am also looking to our growing family needs and it just makes sense. Even in a recession. At least I hope.
We think we have a buyer for the Audi, and although both of us would normally wait on making such a large purchase until the Audi is sold we both also see that there are only four 2008 models left in the city and Mazda is running a great financing special on 2008's right now. So....
I guess if nothing else we can always trade the Audi in along with my husband's Infiniti and he can get a new car when he is ready. Not that you ever get a good deal when trading a car in. Anyway, I went through the Costco Auto Buying program and I have been totally pleased so far. I put my membership number into Costco's website and the dealer contacted me the same day. I have been working with him for a week- trying to track down a model with the options we want (as I mentioned very limited at this time). I haven't even had to set foot in the dealership yet. The price is already set. Dealer invoice price (I'm not sure I believe we are seeing real invoice) plus three hundred dollars. So as of right now we are getting the car at 1800.00 off MSRP. I'm sure if I had a day to haggle I could have worked the price down to that anyway, or even maybe a few hundred dollars lower but I really liked how this worked out.
I have an appointment at 10:30 to go in and finalize everything. So if all goes well, then I will be driving home one of these in Copper Red. I guess this weekend could be pretty eventful after all.
